Mayor Randall Woodfin

Birmingham, Alabama
On behalf of the City of Birmingham, it is an honor to write this letter of appreciation to you for all have done for the City of Birmingham. The Lovelady Center is a place that empowers women through faith-based initiatives that allow women to return to society as reliant women of God. Your focal point is empowerment, hope, and belief in the value of every human life.

Your mission is to help women restore their lives and walk forward with faith-driven hope for the future and be strong contributing members of our community. I commend you for your ongoing program that provides each woman with tools and methods to overcome barriers to success by granting them access to essential services.

For years, you have served as an important piece in the landscape of our city in helping to combat crime, addiction, and homelessness, even during a pandemic. You have remained committed in all you do today and every day. I cannot thank you enough for your service.

It is an honor to recognize and send my appreciation to those making a difference in the City of Birmingham. You exemplify what it means to serve with a heart of gold. May you all continue to amplify and circulate growth among the women of Birmingham and surrounding communities, and may you continue to do it through faith, love and empowerment. Douglas Adams once said, “To give real service, you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity.” Again congratulations on the impact you have made on this great city.

Governor Kay Ivey

State of Alabama
Whereas, the state of Alabama recognizes that one of our most significant challenges is assisting individuals transitioning out of prison or seeking help with recovering from addiction; and

Whereas, in October of 2004, The Lovelady Center began its faith-based reentry and recovery program with six women coming directly from the Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka, Alabama to the home of Brenda Lovelady Spahn; and

Whereas, since that time, over 9,000 women have entered the program built upon the belief in the value of each and every human life and whose mission is to help women rebuild their lives and to walk forward with a faith driven hope for the future;

Now, Therefore, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby commend The Lovelady Center for their meritorious service to the women of the State of Alabama, as they seek to rebuild their lives and become contributing members of society.

Given Under My Hand and the Great Seal of the Office of the Governor at the State Capitol in the City of Montgomery on the 6th day of February 2019.

This is The Lovelady Center. This is the place where the atmosphere is safe to change a life. I’ve been here on many occasions. My wife has been here to minister. You walk in, you hear the music playing - worship music. This place is ready and it is set to help those that are here change their lives.”
